Enzymes and their classes

Enzymes
These are the bio-catalyst synthesized by living cell they are protein in nature, colloidal & thermolabile in character also specified in their actions.

There are 6 classes of enzymes

1. Oxido-reductase :
Enzymes that catalyze the transfer of electron from one molecule to another molecule.
We simply say that these enzyme catalyze oxidation-reduction reaction.

Here are 2 sub-classes of Oxido-reductase

        a. oxidase :
These enzymes catalyze the formation of  hydrogen peroxide by oxidation of CO & CN bonds
             in expense of molecular oxygen
        b. Dehydrogenase :
Enzymes that catalyze the removal of hydrogen from one substrate and pass it to another                            substrate i.e. it help in conversion between alcohol and aldehydes  of ketone by reduction
                eg. Alcohol-dehydrogenase
 2. Transferase :
Help in transfer of one functional group from one molecule to another molecule
                eg. Hexokenase
3. Hydrolase :
Enzyme hat catalyze the hydrolysis by direct addition of water
eg. i)  Amylase : Hydrolysis of carbohydrate
ii) Protease : Hydrolysis of protein
4. Lyases :
Enzyme catalyze the breaking of various chemical bonds by means other than oxidation and                      hydrolysis
                eg. Elimination & addition, aldolase
5. Isomarase :
They convert the molecule from one isomer to another isomer by iter-molecular rearrangement in          which bonds form or broken
            eg. Triosephosphate isomerase
6. Ligesase :
Enzyme that catalyze the synthesis reaction by joining the two molecule
            eg. Glutamine synthetase
